🏯 Nagamachi Samurai District

One of Kanazawa’s most atmospheric historical areas,
Nagamachi Samurai District is where samurai of the Kaga Domain once lived during the Edo period.

The area still preserves its traditional earthen walls, stone-paved alleys, and peaceful waterways, allowing visitors to experience the atmosphere of an old castle town.

Designated as a preserved historical district, Nagamachi offers a quiet and authentic side of Kanazawa, where history and everyday local life still coexist.

In winter, the district becomes especially beautiful when “komo-gake” straw coverings are placed on the earthen walls to protect them from snow and freezing temperatures — a seasonal tradition unique to Kanazawa.

One of the highlights of the area is
Nomura Samurai House,

the only samurai residence in the district that is open to the public.

Visitors can enjoy a stunning Japanese garden, traditional samurai architecture, and displays of swords and armor. The residence was awarded two stars in the Michelin Green Guide Japan.

The area also has many cafés, local restaurants, and sweet shops, making it a perfect place for a relaxing walk.

🏯 長町武家屋敷跡

まるで江戸時代にタイムスリップしたような、金沢を代表する歴史エリア。
長町武家屋敷跡は、かつて加賀藩の武士たちが暮らしていた地区で、今でも土塀や石畳の小路、美しい用水路など、城下町の風景が色濃く残っています。

現在も伝統環境保存区域として大切に保存されており、静かで落ち着いた雰囲気の中をゆっくり散策できるのが魅力です。
観光地でありながら、どこか“生活感”も残っていて、金沢の日常と歴史を同時に感じられるエリアです。

冬には、土塀を雪や凍結から守るための「こも掛け」が行われ、金沢らしい冬景色を見ることができます。
雪が積もった武家屋敷の街並みは特に美しく、多くの観光客や写真愛好家に人気があります。

このエリアで特に人気なのが、一般公開されている武家屋敷
武家屋敷跡 野村家 です。

美しい日本庭園や武士文化を感じられる建築、刀剣や甲冑などの展示を見ることができ、ミシュラン・グリーンガイド・ジャポンでは二つ星にも選ばれています。

周辺にはカフェや和菓子店、郷土料理のお店も多く、散策の途中でひと休みするのにもぴったりです。
