One of Kanazawa’s most famous landmarks,
the 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art is a unique museum where contemporary art, architecture, and everyday life come together.

Opened in 2004 and designed by the world-renowned architectural unit SANAA (Kazuyo Sejima + Ryue Nishizawa), the museum is famous for its circular glass building with no “front” or “back” entrance. The open design was created to feel like a “town square,” welcoming everyone to freely explore the space.

The museum features a wide range of contemporary artworks and interactive installations from artists around the world.
One of its most iconic works is The Swimming Pool by Leandro Erlich, a popular photo spot where visitors can experience the illusion of being underwater.

Even outside the paid exhibition areas, visitors can enjoy free art spaces, open courtyards, cafés, and outdoor installations throughout the museum.
Its relaxed atmosphere makes it enjoyable even for people who are not usually interested in art.

Located next to Kenroku-en Garden and Kanazawa Castle Park, it is one of the best places in the city to experience modern culture and creativity.

🖼 金沢21世紀美術館（21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art）

金沢を代表する人気スポットのひとつ。
金沢21世紀美術館は、現代アート・建築・市民文化が融合した、世界的にも有名な現代美術館です。

2004年に開館し、建築は世界的建築ユニット SANAA（妹島和世＋西沢立衛）によって設計されました。
円形のガラス建築には「正面」がなく、どこからでも自由に入れる“まちの広場”のようなコンセプトで作られています。

館内では、世界中の現代アーティストによる展示や体験型アートを楽しむことができます。
特に有名なのが、レアンドロ・エルリッヒ作《スイミング・プール》。
水中に入ったような不思議な写真が撮れる人気作品です。

また、有料展示エリア以外にも、無料で楽しめる空間や中庭、屋外アート、カフェなどがあり、
「美術館」というより“公園”のような開放感があるのも魅力です。
普段あまりアートに触れない方でも気軽に楽しめます。

兼六園や金沢城公園にも近いため、あわせて散策するのがおすすめです。
